Built for Innovation
The Bloomington Technology Partnership (BTP) is a collaboration to foster innovation and growth across the local tech sector. Composed of the Bloomington Economic Development Corporation (BEDC), the City of Bloomington, Indiana University, Ivy Tech, The Mill, and the Bloomington tech leaders, this partnership creates the connective tissue to drive economic development in the region.
The Trades District offers a rare mix of shovel ready land in downtown Bloomington in addition to renovated historic buildings and opulent new construction. One of its most important buildings is The Mill, a startup incubator and accelerator, and the city’s largest coworking space. Founded as 501(c)3 nonprofit in 2018, The Mill’s mission is to spark Bloomington’s innovation economy. Once startups are ready, they move to Class A Office space in The Forge, a new 22,000-square-foot building. BEDC is proud to have raised the money to build The Mill, and written the grant that funded The Forge.
Indiana University, with the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, Kelley School of Business, and O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, is home to nationally-ranked programs in innovation and technology. Ivy Tech’s broad array of training programs address ever-evolving, real-world industry needs. Meanwhile, The Mill and Trades District Technology Center are growing startups and expanding companies in The Trades District.
